Health and Senior Well Being

As an old tradition hand weaving has developed its own techniques for efficiency and quality within the given work environment, often at home or some cases community centers. All work is manual and use rudimentary technology that has not changed for many centuries. Given that work was part time, worker health was not a major issue. As production increases and more labor hours are put into weaving, good health practices for hours at work, environmental settings, air, lighting, particulate control must now be acknowledged. Furthermore, the majority of the experienced weavers are over 40 years of age. The Philippine government has a national health program that can be accessed to address the issue of aging workers. Similarly, developing a community-based senior assistance program would ensure that older workers remain healthy and are able to transmit and pass on their knowledge to younger weavers.
